On The Cutting Edge - MOTODEV Summits: San Jose

As I was putting together the sessions for our first-ever series of MOTODEV Summits, I started getting really excited about the numerous possibilities these events offer to developers. Those who attend the Summits - in San Jose, in London or in Beijing - will get a unique 360-degree view of what's out there today and discover new ways to create cool, innovative applications.

The platform and technology tracks represent all of the operating systems in which Motorola currently specializes, giving attendees the inside dirt on all of our latest, most exciting products. Since the announcement of our new MOTOMAGX platform at LinuxWorld in August, we have seen a lot of interest from the developer community in Motorola's Linux evolution, and we'll go into detail on these issues at the Summits. UIQ-based devices have also drawn a lot of attention thanks to the new MOTO Z8 multimedia handset, while our Windows Mobile offerings are heating up with the upcoming North American release of the Q9m. AJAR and the world of mass-market handsets are drawing fresh developer attention, as are CDMA and BREW, and we'll be talking about all of these developments as well. We're even cooking up a great session on WiMAX, where we'll present our latest plans for this important technology. And that's just the beginning!

After platforms, the next hot topic in the minds of most developers is the actual tools available for creating applications, testing them and getting them ready to deploy. We've got you covered there too: MOTODEV Summits will have excellent sessions on tools and testing, including a close-up look at the new Eclipse-based MOTODEV Studio for Java ME development environment.

For some time now the industry has been moving towards Web 2.0 experiences on the desktop, and now such applications are taking over the mobile space as well. Motorola's MOTOMAGX solution is ideally suited to take advantage of this change, and we'll have sessions explaining what Web 2.0 means to mobile development and you can write Web 2.0 applications for the MOTOMAGX WebUI platform.

Experts will be on-hand to tell you how to create solid UI for Motorola handsets - whether you're creating games, LBS, music or multimedia apps - and will reveal the current trends and emerging innovations that are shaking up in the industry. Sounds cool, doesn't it? Believe me, it is.

Technology is great, but developers need to remember the business side as well if they're going to succeed in a cutthroat marketplace. Fear not: we've put together some unique sessions to cover these aspects of your development, leveraging Motorola's depth of experience throughout the industry to answer your questions and get your applications to market faster and more effectively. For example, we have an entire panel session dedicated to working with carriers. And Summit attendees can also learn about Motorola Ventures, Motorola's strategic venture funding arm.

The highlights above are only a sampling of the information available to you as a mobile developer at the MOTODEV Summits. The North America Summits are coming up very quickly, but expect to hear about more of the cool topics as we approach the Europe and Asia Pacific Summits. Of course, the best way to keep abreast of the events is to go. They're free, informative and coming your way.
